'Growing in grace together'

Christian Values

Our Christian values provide the grounding on which we base our lives at school. They help us to live out our School vision to ‘grow in grace’. We identified our Christian Values based on our children’s voices and how our school is recognised within our community. This is how our children see themselves within this school. The four values fully encompass how we as a school, embrace our Christian distinctiveness and how our families and pupils live this everyday. Our small rural school provides the nurturing environment for our children to flourish; similar to the trees planted alongside the River Worfe that runs through our school site. Together, we can grow in grace.

Our Christian values have created a golden thread which is reinforced within our curriculum, teaching and learning policies and involve all staff and pupils. We are proud to share our vision and values to our parents and community through our website and newsletters.

Our vicar, along with visitors, staff members, Head of School and pupils lead Collective Worship where these key values as well as other life values are reinforced  through Bible readings, stories, prayer and song. Children have regular opportunities to reflect on what our values look like at school, home and in both our smaller and wider communities. Our St. Peter’s Award is presented to children who have been recognised for living out our Christian Values; an expression of our vision.

Love –Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance, 1 Corinthians 13:7

We recognise that God is love and love comes from God (John 4:7). Love weaves throughout everything we do in the form of philia love; the love between friends and also through promoting storge love; the love between parents and children/siblings. Love is in our relationships and also in our actions which enable the support of our local and wider communities. We can grow and learn because we know that God loves us. We develop our value of love through hearing how Jesus loved, modelling positive interactions through our behaviour regulation policy and supporting those in need both in our school, local and wider communities.

Respect - So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, Matthew 7:12

Also known as the Golden Rule, we value and appreciate the thoughts, ideas, opinions of others even when we don’t necessarily agree with them. Our curriculum enables us to share our thoughts, our behaviour policy allows us to have restorative conversations, our aim is to enable our children to communicate effectively with others and celebrate differences between us.

Friendship - Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help, Ecclesiastes 4:9-10,

There are many stories of friendship in the Bible and we look to how Jesus treats his friends to understand that those relationships are an essential value in our society. Friendship enables us to grow, be challenged, hear truths, feel trust, share joy and sorrow and ensures the unique individuality of a person is recognised. We promote friendship through specific learning opportunities during RE and PSHE lessons, paired and group working, clubs, School council, Worship crew as well as working alongside friends at our other Trinity Schools such as at our times table championships.

Perseverance – So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we do not give up, Galatians 6:9

Jesus frequently encouraged his disciples to ‘endure patiently’ the difficulties and obstacles they encountered and to persevere in the face of adversity. He himself trusted in God even when his enemies tried to stop his work and plotted his death.

Our lives can be fully of difficulties and we recognise this could be on many levels, including mastering a new skill, practising a new game but also in terms of our own and others mental health and well-being. We look to the stories Jesus told about overcoming hardship in order to have the courage to overcome our own. We nurture our children and staff to ensure that challenges are not faced alone and that mistakes are part of our journey through our growth mindset teaching that runs throughout all areas of the curriculum.
